January 20, 2011—Dallas, Texas—Brattle Publishing is pleased to announce the launch of a unique Global Education and Leadership program developed in collaboration with Southern Methodist University’s Simmons School of Education and Human Development. The program is designed to prepare classroom teachers and students with an understanding of global education and leadership concepts and classroom strategies. The 30-hour, blended online and classroom-based course provides the teacher training and instruction needed to prepare American students for understanding and communicating and collaborating with international peers. “The program aims to provide realistic solutions for integrating global education skills and competencies into our schools’ core curriculum and ultimately create global citizens who can approach global issues with empathy for others,” said Simmons School Dean, David Chard. The pilot began in January 2011 and includes noted SMU faculty and teachers from Highland Park, Dallas, and Coppell Texas. Dr. Dawson Orr, the Superintendent of Highland Park, reports, “These dedicated teachers are investing 30 hours this semester in the evening course, which speaks volumes about their commitment to their students and the field of education.
